Pocklington Town FC Out of League Due to Player Shortage
8 Mar
Summary
- Club withdrew due to significant player availability issues.
- Long-term injuries exacerbated the already critical shortage.
- Club plans to rebuild its senior section after withdrawal.

Pocklington Town Football Club has withdrawn from the Humber Premier League due to an insufficient number of players. This decision follows a period where injuries worsened an existing player shortage. The club, which boasts a history of league championships and cup wins, expressed sadness and reluctance in a social media statement.
Having been a league participant for over two decades, the club emphasized their pride in their tenure. They are now focusing on rebuilding their senior football program. The Humber Premier League is recognized as the highest level of local football outside of national-level competitions, serving clubs in Hull and north Lincolnshire.
Pocklington Town FC also had to withdraw a second team from the East Riding County League for similar player availability reasons. Club secretary Richard Bower cited changing societal trends, with players preferring more flexible, shorter training sessions over regular weekend matches, contributing to the decline in senior player numbers.
