The sixth-ranked Pitt-Johnstown Mountain Cats demonstrated their dominance on Friday night, routing No. 9 Ashland 32-10 in a wrestling dual meet. The Mountain Cats secured seven of the ten bouts, earning crucial bonus points in six of those victories. Several Pitt-Johnstown wrestlers, including Trent Hoover, Matt Sarbo, and Ty Morrison, impressed in their debuts with pins and technical falls, setting a strong tone for the team.
Ashland's strategy of resting three of their ranked wrestlers, including top contenders at 149 and 165 pounds, did not deter the Mountain Cats. Top-ranked heavyweight Isaiah Vance concluded the dual with a quick fall, and 125-pounder Trevon Gray also secured a victory. Despite these absences, Ashland's coach acknowledged the strength of Pitt-Johnstown and emphasized the need for his team to perform regardless of the opponent.
Individual highlights for Pitt-Johnstown included Hoover's 52-second pin, Sarbo's 17-2 technical fall, and Morrison's 19-1 win. Chad Ozias and Cooper Warshel also contributed significant victories. Though Ashland managed wins at 133, 184, and 197 pounds, the overall performance solidified Pitt-Johnstown's status as a top contender.
