The Detroit Pistons have adopted an aggressive stance in the current offseason, focusing on bolstering their roster around Cade Cunningham. A significant point of discussion involves Houston Rockets' superstar Kevin Durant.

Durant, despite being in the latter stages of his career, continues to perform at an elite level. His decorated profile includes an MVP award and multiple championship and Finals MVP honors. This legacy is a key factor in teams like the Pistons pursuing him.

NBA insider Brett Siegel reported that Detroit has been exceptionally active in their pursuit of Durant. While past trade discussions involving Durant, Alperen Sengun, and Jaylen Brown did not advance, Durant reportedly holds a genuine interest in joining forces with Cunningham, a player he has publicly praised.

Durant joined the Rockets in July 2025 and signed a two-year, $90 million extension in October, fully guaranteed. However, his long-term commitment to Houston is reportedly in doubt due to off-court issues and controversies. Despite these challenges, Durant maintained elite performance last season, averaging 26.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 4.8 assists.

Should Houston decide to trade Durant or if he seeks a new opportunity, the prospect of him joining Cunningham in Detroit is considered a realistic future possibility.
