Seth Hernandez, the Pittsburgh Pirates' premier pitching prospect, is advancing rapidly in 2026. After a phenomenal month-and-a-half with Single-A Bradenton, the 19-year-old has been promoted to High-A Greensboro.
During his time with Bradenton, Hernandez compiled a 3-0 record across six starts, boasting a minuscule 0.96 ERA over 28.0 innings. He showcased exceptional control with 50 strikeouts against just seven walks, limiting opponents to a mere .135 batting average and achieving a 0.71 WHIP. His performance earned him Florida State League Pitcher of the Month for April.
Hernandez's arsenal includes a fastball that reaches up to 100 mph, complemented by a slider, changeup, and curveball. He demonstrated remarkable effectiveness with his offspeed pitches, achieving a whiff rate over 70% and notching 40 strikeouts with them. His recent starts saw him pitch progressively deeper into games, reaching six innings in his last outing.
The young pitcher's primary challenge will be adapting to the higher level of competition and increased pitching volume. Greensboro's First National Bank Field, known for its hitter-friendly dimensions, presents an additional hurdle, particularly concerning the home run ball. Hernandez's ability to maintain his pitch quality and velocity later in outings will be crucial for continued success.
