Within their farm system, pitcher Alex McFarlane stands out. He is on the 40-man roster and has been recorded throwing pitches at 102 mph in Double-A Reading. McFarlane has demonstrated dominance, holding opponents to a .178 average with a 2.12 ERA and 45 strikeouts in 34.0 innings pitched for the Reading Fightin Phils. Despite his performance, the team is proceeding cautiously with his development.

Manager Rob Mattingly indicated that while any rostered player is a possibility, McFarlane's promotion is not currently being considered. Reasons cited include his relative inexperience and the organization's desire to manage his progression carefully, possibly keeping him as a trade asset. Another pitcher, Gage Wood, is also being monitored. He is developing as a starter in Double-A Reading, and the team is closely managing his workload, ensuring he does not exceed five innings or 70 pitches per start. Wood has accumulated 39 strikeouts against 9 walks in 28.2 innings with a 3.45 ERA since joining Reading. Like McFarlane, decisions about Wood's future role are managed by the front office, with the current plan being for him to remain a starter.
