Summary
- Peugeot's 9X8 Hypercar will receive significant upgrades for next year's WEC season.
- New regulations allow performance updates for underperforming cars.
- The manufacturer is committed to the WEC through 2029.

Peugeot is set to introduce a significant upgrade to its 9X8 Le Mans Hypercar for the upcoming World Endurance Championship season in 2027. This strategic move capitalizes on newly implemented regulations that permit "evo joker" updates for cars exhibiting a demonstrable lack of performance.
While Peugeot did not implement performance upgrades for 2026, it is understood that all initial upgrade allowances were utilized. The current regulations, however, have been adjusted to allow for re-homologation of cars demonstrating performance deficiencies. Peugeot's motorsport boss confirmed preparations are underway for these upgrades to appear on track next year.
Since its WEC debut in 2022, Peugeot has yet to secure a race victory, with its best finishes being a second place at Fuji last year and multiple third-place finishes. A substantial car overhaul occurred in April 2024, when the 9X8 shifted to a staggered wheel and tire setup, followed by further updates in 2025 that are believed to have exhausted its upgrade jokers.
Peugeot has reaffirmed its commitment to the World Endurance Championship through the end of the current homologation period in 2029. The company's CEO highlighted Peugeot's resilience and dedication to the series and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Discussions are ongoing with the FIA and ACO regarding the 2030 regulations, specifically concerning the technological roadmap and Balance of Performance.
