Pat Cummins, captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad, has reiterated his unwavering commitment to Australian cricket, especially Test matches, as his foremost career priority for the foreseeable future. His participation in the Indian Premier League is mainly accommodated during Australia's holiday period.

Cummins indicated that this focus means he will continue to make himself available for as many Australian games as possible, a stance that led him to decline the T20I captaincy. He recently took an extended break, missing seven IPL matches, to recover from a lower back injury sustained last year.

This recovery period has been highly effective; Cummins reports feeling physically rejuvenated and in the best condition he has experienced in the last six or seven years. The injury is now fully healed, and the careful rehabilitation process ensures he is well-prepared for a busy schedule of 20 Test matches over the next 18 months, minimizing the risk of recurrence.

Since his return to the SRH side, Cummins has been instrumental in their bowling attack, delivering crucial breakthroughs and maintaining a strong economy rate. Sunrisers Hyderabad will play their final league stage game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Friday, May 22. A significant victory of 88 runs or more could still offer SRH a chance to finish in the top two this season.
