Panthers Coach Fights Skin Cancer

Carolina Panthers head coach Dave Canales recently underwent a procedure to remove basal cell carcinoma, a common form of skin cancer. The 45-year-old coach discovered the condition during a routine skin screening approximately two months prior to his team's mandatory minicamp.

Canales, who was seen with a bandage on his nose, shared his experience to encourage others. He stressed the importance of regular screenings and sun protection, mentioning that his mother had a similar diagnosis in her 40s. He highlighted his personal commitment to using high SPF sunscreen on exposed areas.

Basal cell carcinoma is identified as the most prevalent type of skin cancer, with an estimated 3.6 million cases diagnosed annually in the United States, according to The Skin Cancer Foundation.
