Laureano's Blast Lifts Padres Over A's
24 May
Summary
- Laureano's tiebreaking homer in the seventh sealed the Padres' win.
- Kurtz's 45-game on-base streak is the majors' longest this year.
- Machado and Castellanos also homered for San Diego.
Ramón Laureano's go-ahead home run in the seventh inning propelled the San Diego Padres to a 7-3 win against the Athletics on Friday. The Padres rallied from an early deficit, with key home runs from Manny Machado and Nick Castellanos also contributing to the victory. This win halted the Athletics' three-game winning streak and continued the Padres' dominance over their opponents.
Nick Kurtz extended his major league-leading on-base streak to 45 games with an RBI double in the first inning for the Athletics. The Athletics initially took a 2-0 lead and later a 3-2 advantage, but the Padres' offense proved too strong. San Diego added three runs in the eighth inning to secure their lead, with Gavin Sheets contributing a two-run double.
The Athletics' loss came despite strong performances from several players. J.T. Ginn and Lucas Giolito were scheduled to start the following night's game. The victory was a crucial bounce-back for the Padres after recent losses.
