Packers' Receiver Gamble: Still No Davante Adams?
19 Mar
Summary
- Packers invested most draft capital in receivers from 2022-2025.
- No Packers receiver has reached 1,000 yards since Adams' departure.
- Key receivers Watson, Reed, and Wicks are set for free agency soon.

The Green Bay Packers have made a significant investment in their wide receiver corps following the departure of Davante Adams in March 2022. From 2022 through 2025, the team has allocated more draft capital to receivers than any other NFL team. This strategy involved selecting six receivers across four drafts, including Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs in 2022, Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks in 2023, and Matthew Golden and Savion Williams in 2025.
Despite these efforts, the Packers have not succeeded in replacing Adams' production. In the four seasons since Adams was traded, no Packers receiver has achieved 1,000 receiving yards, with Jayden Reed's 857 yards in 2024 being the highest. Furthermore, the team has struggled to replicate Adams' impact in terms of 100-yard games, with the combined total for all Packers receivers over the past four seasons equaling Adams' individual total from his final season in 2021.
Adding to the challenge, several key receivers are nearing the end of their contracts. Christian Watson, Jayden Reed, and Dontayvion Wicks are all scheduled to become free agents next offseason. While Watson is a potential high-earner and Reed has shown flashes of brilliance, their contract situations, coupled with the ongoing need for impactful play, suggest the Packers might again turn to the draft to bolster their receiving depth.
