Packers QB Jordan Love Confident for Season Opener Despite Thumb Surgery
29 Aug
Summary
- Jordan Love underwent thumb surgery 2 weeks ago
- Love says injury won't limit him in 2025 season
- Packers WRs Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks return to practice

Just over two weeks ago, Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love underwent surgery to fix a torn ligament in his left thumb. The injury occurred during a preseason loss to the New York Jets when Love hit a helmet.
Despite the surgery, Love does not believe the injury will limit him at all during the 2025 NFL season. He explained that without 100% stability in the thumb, his strength would not be where it needed to be, so he opted for the procedure. As of August 29th, Love is still sporting a brace on the thumb and has only been handing the ball off with his right hand, but he insists there are "no concerns" about his status for the season opener against the Detroit Lions in 9 days.
The Packers also received some good news this week, as wide receivers Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks returned to practice after suffering earlier injuries during training camp. Their return will provide additional support for Love as he works to recover from the thumb surgery.
