Packers' Defensive Coordinator Impresses, Poised for Giants Head Coaching Job
13 Nov
Summary
- Packers' defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley may be auditioning for Giants' head coaching job
- Hafley's defense held reigning Super Bowl champion Eagles to their lowest point total since 2023 playoffs
- Hafley has transformed Packers' run defense into one of the league's best units

As the Green Bay Packers take on the New York Giants this Sunday, their defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley may be auditioning for a new role. Just hours after the Giants fired head coach Brian Daboll on Monday, Hafley's defense held the reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles to their lowest point total since their 2023 playoff loss against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Hafley, who is in his second season as the Packers' defensive coordinator, has made a significant impact on the team's defensive performance. Since the start of the 2024 season, the Packers rank fifth in scoring defense, fourth in yards allowed per game, third in rushing yards allowed per game, and seventh in takeaways. Notably, Hafley has transformed the Packers' run defense, which ranked 22nd from 2019-2023, into one of the league's best units.
The Giants might be looking for an offensive-minded head coach to develop their quarterback of the future, Jaxson Dart, but Hafley's defensive prowess and proven track record in the NFL could make him an attractive candidate. With the Packers' offensive struggles and the possibility of a premature playoff exit or a missed postseason entirely, the Giants and other teams may not be the only ones interested in Hafley's services as a head coach.
