Packers Bring Back Offensive Lineman Lecitus Smith to Boost Depth
5 Aug
Summary
- Packers sign offensive lineman Lecitus Smith, who spent time with the team last year
- Smith can play multiple interior offensive line positions, providing valuable depth
- Packers have several injured offensive linemen, making Smith's signing timely

In a move to strengthen their offensive line depth, the Green Bay Packers have signed Lecitus Smith, a familiar face who spent time with the team last year. According to the report, the Packers agreed to terms with Smith on Tuesday, just a day after bringing back cornerback Corey Ballentine.
Smith, originally a sixth-round pick by the Arizona Cardinals in 2022, was signed by the Packers in May 2024 and spent all of last year's training camp in Green Bay. Though he didn't make the 53-man roster, he was signed to the practice squad until October, when he was signed off by the New England Patriots.
The Packers' decision to bring back Smith is particularly timely, as the team currently has three offensive linemen dealing with various injuries, including rookie John Williams with a longer-term back problem, starting left tackle Rasheed Walker with a groin injury, and last year's sixth-round pick Travis Glover with a shoulder issue. All three players missed practice on Tuesday.

Smith's positional versatility, as he can play all three interior offensive line positions, and his familiarity with the Packers' system under head coach Matt LaFleur, make him a valuable addition to the roster. The Packers will face the New York Jets in their first preseason game on Saturday, and Smith's experience and depth could prove crucial in the coming weeks.
