As of November 11th, 2025, an unlikely friendship between Philadelphia Eagles and Green Bay Packers fans has endured for over five years, all thanks to an organ donation that brought them together.
In 2020, Jason Spepongzi, a diehard Eagles fan from Nazareth, donated his kidney to Bobbi Brenner, a Packers supporter from Rochester, Minnesota. Spepongzi was inspired to become a donor after seeing a Facebook post about a young Eagles fan in need of a kidney. Though he couldn't help that child, he was a match for Brenner, who had been on dialysis for years and required her fourth transplant.
The transplant was a success, and the two fans soon met in person, forming an instant connection. "When I finally met her, it was definitely emotional in the parking lot," Spepongzi recalled. Since then, their friendship has only grown stronger, with the two families regularly meeting up to watch their beloved teams face off.
As Willi Brenner, Bobbi's husband, explained, "We first decided to get together at the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and then we said the next time the Eagles come to Lambeau, we're going to get tickets and that's going to be the next time we get together face to face." For these fans, football has become the glue that keeps their unique bond alive.
The story has a happy ending for another young Eagles fan as well. Jaxson, who was initially seeking a kidney, was able to receive a transplant on Christmas Day 2020 from a different donor. His father reports that the now 9-year-old is doing well.
