Oregon State officially named Michigan assistant Justin Joyner as its new head coach on Wednesday, ushering in a new chapter for the men's basketball program. Joyner, 38, brings a wealth of experience, having spent seven seasons with Saint Mary's before joining Michigan's coaching staff. His appointment signals the athletic department's desire to establish "momentum and an upward trajectory" for the program, especially with the upcoming move to a new Pac-12 conference.
Oregon State athletic director Scott Barnes highlighted Joyner's "unmatched commitment, passion and energy," along with his strong recruiting acumen and player development record. Joyner himself expressed excitement about joining an athletic department that aligns with his values and looks forward to integrating with the Corvallis community alongside his wife, Tracy, and daughter, Weslee.
Wayne Tinkle concluded his 12th season with the Beavers, achieving a record of 177-206. During his tenure, he led the team to two NCAA Tournament appearances, including a notable run to the Pac-12 tournament championship and the Elite Eight in the 2020-21 season. Tinkle also had a successful stint coaching his alma mater, Montana.
