Summary
- Tabitha Stoecker discovered skeleton via an Instagram advert in 2019.
- She won mixed team skeleton gold with Matt Weston, beating Germany.
- Over 4,000 people signed up for talent ID after recent successes.

Team GB's Tabitha Stoecker, a recent mixed team skeleton gold medallist, revealed her unexpected entry into the sport was sparked by an Instagram advert in 2019. Stoecker, who initially pursued circus performance, found skeleton through a talent identification process. She shared that the adrenaline and performance aspects of circus training prepared her for the thrilling nature of skeleton.
Stoecker and teammate Matt Weston secured gold by a narrow margin, 0.17 seconds ahead of Germany. This victory, coupled with Weston's individual gold, has significantly boosted interest in the sport. The British Bobsleigh and Skeleton Association reported over 4,000 new sign-ups to their talent ID campaign, with more than 1,000 joining after the mixed team event.
Despite lacking a dedicated ice track in the UK and training on a push track in Bath, Team GB athletes have achieved remarkable success. Stoecker noted the significant disadvantage compared to nations like Germany, who possess multiple training facilities. This historical success, with previous Olympic golds in 2010, 2014, and 2018, underscores the resilience and talent within the British skeleton program.
