Thunder's New Era: Opening Night Roster Revealed

The Oklahoma City Thunder are poised to begin their 2026-27 NBA season on the road against the San Antonio Spurs. This opening night clash carries weight, as San Antonio eliminated OKC in a seven-game series last season.

The Thunder will present a noticeably different look due to a transformative offseason, which saw multiple players traded and several rookies integrated into the team.

The projected starting lineup features the familiar core of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Jalen Williams, and Chet Holmgren, providing a dynamic offensive and defensive presence. Isaiah Hartenstein is set to anchor the center position, offering rebounding and inside scoring. New addition Cason Wallace is expected to fill a significant role, providing elite perimeter defense and filling production lost through trades, having recently signed a $139 million deal.

Key contributors are also expected to emerge from a deep bench. Alex Caruso remains a crucial defensive asset, while Ajay Mitchell showed impactful potential last season and is poised for further growth. Jared McCain is anticipated to shoulder a portion of the team's three-point shooting responsibilities.

Further depth is provided by players like Jaylin Williams and Kenrich Williams in the frontcourt. Rookies Aday Mara and Bennett Stirtz impressed during the preseason and could see minutes against the Spurs. Players like Nikola Topic and Thomas Sorber are not expected to be in the initial rotation as they ramp up after missing Summer League and preseason.

This revamped Thunder squad aims to set a new tone for the season from the outset against a familiar rival.
