Thunder Injury Update: Key Players Nearing Return for 2026-27 Camp
2 Sep
Summary
- Three key Thunder players are expected at training camp after injuries.
- Jalen Williams battled multiple hamstring strains, missing most of the postseason.
- Thomas Sorber has not played since September 2025 due to a torn ACL.

With the NBA offseason nearing its end, the Oklahoma City Thunder are looking towards a healthier roster for the upcoming 2026-27 season. Key players Jalen Williams, Ajay Mitchell, and Thomas Sorber are all on track to be available for training camp, which typically begins in late September or early October.
Williams endured a challenging period, experiencing four hamstring strains within five months, which significantly impacted his participation in the 2026 postseason. Mitchell, meanwhile, missed the final four games of the last season due to a soleus strain. Sorber has been out since September 2025, recovering from a torn ACL, and is expected to be medically cleared.
Williams has been working with an NBA trainer this offseason to address chronic hamstring issues, with expectations that these will not affect the upcoming season. Mitchell also completed his rehabilitation in July, allowing him to resume offseason training. Sorber, who underwent a follow-up procedure in June 2026, should be ready for action after an 18-month recovery period by the time preseason begins in October 2026.
The Thunder, co-title favorites with the San Antonio Spurs, hope for better injury luck this year. Their star trio of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Chet Holmgren, and Williams have not enjoyed a consistently healthy season together since 2023-24.
