Marathon Dreams: Only 1% Get NYC Entry

The New York City Marathon remains an aspirational goal for many runners, but gaining entry is exceptionally challenging. This year, the general-entry drawing saw an overwhelming number of applicants vying for a limited number of spots.

Over 240,000 individuals submitted applications through the lottery system. However, the odds were starkly against them, as only 1% of these hopefuls managed to secure a coveted place in the race. This stringent selection process is overseen by New York Road Runners, the nonprofit organization responsible for orchestrating one of the world's most prestigious marathons.
