Charlie Appleby Eyes York Over France for Notable Speech
2 Aug
Summary
- Notable Speech favored for York's City of York Stakes over France.
- The miler is 70-30 in favor of a drop back to seven furlongs.
- Opera Ballo may head to Canada for the Woodbine Mile instead.
Trainer Charlie Appleby is strongly considering the Sky Bet City of York Stakes for his accomplished miler, Notable Speech. Currently, the trainer favors this option over a trip to France for the Prix Jacques le Marois, with a 70-30 split indicating a preference for a return to seven furlongs at York.
This decision could pave the way for stablemate Opera Ballo to travel to Canada for the Woodbine Mile. Opera Ballo, who finished third in the Sussex Stakes, also has the Breeders' Cup Mile in its sights. Appleby believes the Canadian track's configuration and racing style will suit Opera Ballo well, potentially leading to a strong showing in the Breeders' Cup.
