Kyrgios Suspended After Cocaine Test

Nick Kyrgios, the 2022 Wimbledon finalist, has been provisionally suspended from the ATP Tour after testing positive for cocaine. The positive sample was collected at the Mallorca Championships in June 2026 and confirmed on July 17, 2026. The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) imposed a suspension effective August 4, 2026, which Kyrgios has not appealed.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Kyrgios took full responsibility for his actions, stating, "I made a huge mistake." He apologized to his supporters, family, and sponsors, acknowledging the negative example he has set for young fans. The Australian player has faced significant injury challenges in recent years, including a wrist reconstruction in September 2023, limiting his play to just four matches in 2026.

Kyrgios has previously spoken openly about mental health struggles, including depression and coping mechanisms involving alcohol and drugs. Despite these challenges, he achieved significant success in 2022, reaching the Wimbledon final and the US Open quarterfinals. He is one of the few players to have defeated Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic. His career has also been marked by on-court and off-court controversies.

Following the announcement, Kyrgios stated he would be taking a break from social media and public life to focus on personal improvement, vowing to "do the work and come back better."
