Gavin McKenna, an 18-year-old ice hockey player for the Penn State Nittany Lions and a highly touted NHL prospect, is facing serious legal repercussions. He has been charged with felony aggravated assault, simple assault, harassment, and disorderly conduct stemming from an incident on January 31. The alleged altercation occurred in downtown State College after McKenna attended his team's outdoor game.
The charges state that McKenna attempted to cause serious bodily injury or caused injury with extreme indifference. Reports indicate that the alleged victim suffered a broken jaw as a result of the incident. The State College Police Department has been contacted for comment.
McKenna is widely considered a potential first overall selection in the 2026 NHL Draft. He has impressed in 24 games with Penn State this season, following a successful stint in the WHL. Growing up in Whitehouse, Yukon, Canada, he has also represented Canada internationally at the U20 level. McKenna is currently awaiting a preliminary hearing for his case.
