Cougars Roar in Fourth Quarter Comeback!
5 Feb
Summary
- NHCA boys basketball team scored 30 points in the fourth quarter.
- Strong defense held opponents to 27 points through three quarters.
- Adam Stanton's early fourth quarter three-pointer ignited the offense.

New Heights Christian Academy's boys basketball team secured a commanding 61-32 victory over Lighthouse Christian in the opening round of the Mercy/Warrior Classic. The Cougars, holding an 8-point lead entering the final quarter, unleashed an offensive barrage, nearly tallying 30 points in that period alone after a combined 35 through the first three.
Key to the turnaround was a defensive adjustment that stifled the Chargers, limiting them to just 27 points through three quarters. Adam Stanton's baseline jumper at the end of the third quarter and his subsequent three-pointer to start the fourth provided the offensive spark. This ignited a 15-1 run for NHCA, establishing a dominant lead.
Cannon Miller led NHCA with 12 points, and Adam Stanton added 11. Coach Steve Harrel emphasized the importance of confidence and defense, stating, "If we aren't getting steals, traps and tips, it won't be a good day for Heights." The team's defense is a cornerstone of their identity, and it proved decisive in this game.
NHCA will advance to face Thomas Jefferson Independent Day School in the semifinals on Thursday at 8:30 p.m. The team's ability to overcome early offensive woes through strong defense and a decisive fourth-quarter surge demonstrates their resilience and skill.
