Summary
- NFL investigates official's outburst at Cardinals player Trey McBride.
- Union leader demands accountability for officials' conduct.
- Incident occurred late in Cardinals' loss to Giants.
The National Football League is currently reviewing an incident involving an official directing profanity at Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride. The episode took place during Sunday's game where the Cardinals were defeated by the New York Giants. Video evidence captured line judge Jeff Seeman uttering expletives towards McBride.
This conduct has drawn sharp criticism from the NFL Players Association. Executive Director JC Tretter stated that such behavior from an official is unacceptable and called for the league to hold its referees to the same standards as players. The NFL Referees Association has not yet responded to requests for comment.
The controversial moment occurred with less than five minutes remaining in the game. Officials had just failed to flag New York's Dru Phillips for pass interference or illegal contact against McBride on a third-down play. Following this, Arizona punted, and the Giants secured their 36-24 victory with a late interception return for a touchdown.
