Newcastle Eyes Lens Star Goalkeeper

Newcastle United is actively pursuing RC Lens's promising goalkeeper, Robin Risser, as part of their strategy to strengthen their goalkeeping department for the upcoming 2026/27 season. The 21-year-old French talent has been instrumental in Lens's impressive campaign, drawing attention from top European clubs.

Risser has demonstrated elite performance statistics in Ligue 1, recording 10 clean sheets in 26 appearances and conceding only 23 goals. His impressive save rate of 74%, averaging 2.5 saves per game, ranks him among the division's best. These attributes, coupled with his composed demeanor and sweeper-keeper abilities, have also attracted interest from Tottenham Hotspur.

The Magpies' pursuit comes amid increasing scrutiny of current goalkeeper Nick Pope, whose recent high-profile errors have prompted Newcastle to seek a long-term replacement. Risser's physical presence and distribution skills are seen as ideal fits for manager Eddie Howe's requirements.

Lens, however, is reluctant to part with Risser, especially with Champions League football secured for next season. They are expected to demand a significant transfer fee, estimated to be around €40 million, to sanction the sale of their key player.
