Nets May Trade Porter Jr. Amid Rebuild
4 Mar
Summary
- Nets could trade leading scorer Michael Porter Jr. in offseason.
- Detroit Pistons are a team linked to acquiring Porter Jr.
- Proposed deal includes Tobias Harris and future draft picks.

Michael Porter Jr. could still be traded by the Brooklyn Nets during the offseason, despite surviving the recent trade deadline. The Nets, currently in a rebuilding phase, might seek assets to accelerate their process by moving their leading scorer.
The Detroit Pistons have emerged as a team showing interest in Porter Jr. A hypothetical trade proposed by Bleacher Report suggests Porter Jr. heading to Detroit for Tobias Harris, Caris LeVert, a 2026 first-round pick, and a 2030 first-round pick swap.
Porter Jr. is seen as a player who could complement Cade Cunningham and Jalen Duren in Detroit, offering scoring and playmaking abilities. Meanwhile, the Nets would receive veteran experience from LeVert and Harris, along with valuable draft assets, particularly the 2030 pick swap which could prove significant if Detroit's success wanes.
However, acquiring Porter Jr. might require more from the Pistons, as Nets' general manager Sean Marks aims to win trades decisively. Nets coach Jordi Fernández also values Porter Jr.'s off-ball scoring. Despite these considerations, Brooklyn remains open to keeping Porter Jr. if a suitable offer doesn't materialize.
