Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra has started his pre-season training in Potchefstroom, South Africa, under the tutelage of his new coach, Jai Chaudhary. The Sports Ministry's Mission Olympic Cell has sanctioned a 32-day training camp for the Olympian, which will run until February 5. This focused block aims to enhance his strength, conditioning, and technical skills ahead of major events later in the year.
The approved financial assistance for Chopra's camp amounts to Rs. 11.80 lakh. This funding covers expenses related to training, local logistics, gym and ground access, and travel. Chopra, accompanied by his long-time physiotherapist Ishaan Marwaha, is preparing for upcoming competitions, including the Asian Games and Commonwealth Games.
Last year, Chopra faced challenges including an adductor muscle issue, though he achieved a throw exceeding 90 meters. He concluded his 2025 season with a less favorable finish at the Tokyo World Championships. His anticipated return to competition is at the Doha Diamond League in May 2026.
