Nationals Pitchers Combine for Historic Strikeout Feat
26 Apr
Summary
- Two pitchers achieved a rare four-strikeout inning.
- This feat last occurred for the Nationals in 2006.
- It was the first time since 2024 that two pitchers combined for this.

In a rare display of pitching dominance, Washington Nationals pitchers Jake Irvin and Mitchell Parker combined for four strikeouts in a single inning on Saturday. This unusual feat occurred during the Nationals' 10-inning, 6-3 win against the White Sox.
Right-hander Jake Irvin initiated the remarkable sixth inning by striking out Miguel Vargas. However, Vargas reached second base on a passed ball and a subsequent error. Irvin then fanned two more batters, bringing his strikeout total for the inning to three.
With two outs, the Nationals brought in left-handed pitcher Mitchell Parker from the bullpen. Parker completed the rare four-strikeout inning by striking out the final batter he faced. This marks the first time since September 17, 2024, that two pitchers have combined for four strikeouts in one frame.
The Elias Sports Bureau noted that Jon Rauch was the only other Nationals pitcher to achieve a four-strikeout inning on April 26, 2006. Since that game and Saturday's event, there have been 67 such innings recorded across Major League Baseball during the regular season.
