House Sent Down: Nationals Roster Shake-up
20 May
Summary
- Brady House optioned to Triple-A Rochester after struggles.
- Dylan Crews recalled to the majors from Triple-A Rochester.
- House committed eight errors, worst in MLB, with a .681 OPS.

The Washington Nationals announced two significant roster changes on Monday night, optioning third baseman Brady House to Triple-A Rochester. This decision occurred shortly after a 12-inning loss and just hours after reports surfaced of outfielder Dylan Crews' impending recall from Triple-A. Both House and Crews were promoted aggressively through the minor league system by the previous club leadership.
House, 22, was the Nationals' first-round draft pick in 2021 and debuted in the majors last year. He struggled during his major league tenure, posting a .227 batting average and a .681 OPS. Defensively, he committed an MLB-worst eight errors and had difficulty with ground balls. Across 117 games with the organization, his OPS is .615. Despite these struggles, his seven home runs this season ranked third on the team.
The club opted for Rochester to allow House further development time, believing it would be more beneficial than keeping him on the big-league roster. He had started 38 of Washington's 48 games at third base this season, earning a spot on the Opening Day roster.
