The fourth-seeded Nagpur outfit went down fighting after losing both the singles and doubles matches in the third and deciding games.
In the first singles tie, Pranay Gadewar lost to Sarvesh Yadav of Thane despite winning the opening game 22-20, 9-21, 13-21. The Nagpur duo of Jeeva Pillai and Pranay Gadewar also went down fighting against the experienced Thane pair of Arjun and Aryan Birajdar in the doubles contest, 21-15, 7-21, 10-21.
Earlier in the semifinals, Nagpur had blanked Sangli 2-0, with Pranay Gadewar winning the singles match and pairing up with Jeeva Pillai to clinch the doubles tie in straight games.
While the Nagpur boys' team had to settle for the silver medal, their girls' counterparts were humbled by Pune in the quarterfinals of the state team badminton championship.
