13 Jan
Summary
- Mohammad Nabi expressed irritation when asked about Mustafizur Rahman's IPL controversy.
- KKR released Mustafizur Rahman despite a substantial bid, due to BCCI directives.
- Bangladesh Cricket Board requested T20 World Cup matches be moved from India.

Afghanistan's Mohammad Nabi grew visibly irritated when pressed about the ongoing controversy involving Bangladesh bowler Mustafizur Rahman and the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in a post-match press conference. Nabi, participating in the Bangladesh Premier League, swiftly dismissed the line of questioning, emphasizing his lack of involvement and connection to the situation.
The controversy ignited when KKR decided to release Mustafizur Rahman, despite having acquired him for INR 9.20 crore at the IPL auction. This decision reportedly stemmed from a directive by the BCCI, influenced by escalating political and diplomatic tensions between India and Bangladesh. Mustafizur was the sole Bangladeshi player selected in the auction.
Adding another layer to the dispute, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has formally written to the ICC, requesting that their T20 World Cup matches be relocated from India due to security concerns. The tournament, scheduled from February 7 to March 8, 2025, includes three matches for Bangladesh in Kolkata and Mumbai. The ICC has not yet responded, and a venue change appears improbable so close to the event.
