The Washington Mystics clinched a vital 86-85 win over the Toronto Tempo thanks to a clutch buzzer-beater from second-year player Sonia Citron. The game was a nail-biter, highlighted by an incredible scoring surge from Marina Mabrey, who poured in 27 points, including 18 in a mere 3:14 of the fourth quarter.
Mabrey's offensive explosion nearly erased an 18-point deficit, as the Tempo rallied with a 24-7 run to take a late lead. However, Citron's contested jump shot as time expired sealed the victory for the Mystics.
This win was crucial for the Mystics, who improved their home record and playoff standing at 5-6. The loss was a significant blow to the Tempo's playoff aspirations and Commissioner's Cup chances. The Tempo were also hampered by the absences of key players Kiki Rice and Nyara Sabally due to injuries.
