15 Oct
Summary
- Michigan State faces critical cornerback and linebacker shortages.
- Northwestern's breakout tight end Luke Dehnicke is doubtful.
- Pat Fitzgerald coaches against his former team, Michigan State.
Michigan State is set to face No. 25 Northwestern on Saturday with significant injury concerns. The Spartans are particularly depleted at cornerback and linebacker, losing multiple starters at these positions. NiJhay Burt is expected to return and bolster the cornerback group, likely starting alongside true freshman Jeremiah Favorite. Linebacker Dion Crawford is also anticipated to play despite a recent injury.
Northwestern also faces availability issues, with breakout tight end Luke Dehnicke doubtful to play after missing the last two games. Safety Robert Fitzgerald, a key defensive player, is questionable. This game holds personal significance for MSU head coach Pat Fitzgerald, as he returns to coach against his alma mater for the first time. The Wildcats have a 4-1 record, while the Spartans are 2-4 overall.
