Liverpool Star Salah's Future: NYCFC Mulls Move, Others Pass
26 Mar
Summary
- Salah announced his departure from Liverpool at the season's end.
- San Diego and Chicago Fire are not pursuing Salah.
- New York City FC has not ruled out signing the winger.

Mohamed Salah has confirmed his departure from Liverpool following the conclusion of the current season. This announcement comes as a surprise, given his recent two-year contract extension signed at the end of the 2024-25 campaign, which was his most successful individual season with the club.
A number of clubs globally have been linked with the Egyptian winger. However, Major League Soccer (MLS) teams are reportedly not a primary focus for his next move. According to The Athletic, San Diego has indicated that Salah does not align with their 'sporting philosophy' for a high-value Designated Player.
Similarly, the Chicago Fire, previously rumored to be interested, are also not pursuing Salah's services. The situation remains fluid, though, as New York City FC has reportedly "won't rule out" an attempt to sign the star player. MLS Commissioner has also voiced support for acquiring such talent.
