Malaysian badminton icon Misbun Sidek has commenced his inaugural coaching assignment outside his home country, joining the Hatsun Badminton Academy in Thiruthangal as a High Performance Coach. Sidek brings a wealth of experience, having been instrumental in Malaysia's 1992 Thomas Cup victory and earning two World Championship bronze medals. He has previously coached three players who achieved World No. 1 rankings: Lee Chong Wei, Rashid Sidek, and Roslin Hashim.
Expressing his initial hesitation to coach abroad, Sidek was motivated by the determination of the Hatsun team and the academy's excellent facilities. He expressed eagerness to discover and develop India's next top badminton talent, aiming to produce a fourth World No. 1 player.
Rajnikanth, head coach of Hatsun Badminton Academy, highlighted the significant impact Sidek's tactical and technical expertise will have on their players' development. He also noted Sidek's inspiring energy levels, even at his age, during training sessions.
