- The decision followed a review of the program's performance and standing.

Minnesota women's hockey coach Brad Frost was dismissed Tuesday after 19 seasons with the program. Athletic director Mark Coyle announced the decision following the Gophers' loss in the NCAA quarterfinals last week. Frost, who was in the final year of his contract, had an impressive record of 554-133-43 during his tenure.
Under Frost's leadership, the Gophers secured four national championships in 2012, 2013, 2015, and 2016. He had also been an assistant coach on the national title teams in 2004 and 2005. Despite recent appearances in the Women's Frozen Four, conference rivals Ohio State and Wisconsin have dominated national championships since 2018.
Coyle stated the decision was difficult but necessary, emphasizing the program's need to contend at the highest level. He acknowledged Frost's class and integrity over his 19 years. The U.S. women's Olympic gold medal team notably included five former Gophers who played under Frost.
