Prior to his role at BYU, Hill made a significant impact as the head coach at Weber State for nine seasons. He guided the Wildcats to four Big Sky Conference championships and a 68-39 overall record. Hill also has a long-standing relationship with coaching staff, having previously worked under and with Kyle Whittingham at Utah.
Hill replaces Wink Martindale, concluding a five-season stretch of Ravens-style defensive systems. His appointment signals a renewed focus on defensive strength for Michigan, aiming to build upon a legacy of strong defensive play. Hill's final game with BYU saw the Cougars pitch a second-half shutout to secure a bowl victory.
