The Mitchell Athletic Booster Club (MABC) has seen a significant financial upswing following the opening of the new Mitchell High School building in 2025. The relocation of athletic events to the MHS gymnasiums has enabled the MABC to operate its concession stands at more events, leading to substantial revenue growth.
During the 2025-26 fiscal year, the MABC recorded $132,433 in concessions income, more than double the previous year's $61,783. Net profit also saw a dramatic increase, growing from $22,754 to $64,546. These profits directly benefit Mitchell High School's 21 sports, funding everything from daily equipment needs to larger projects. Notably, the MABC recently provided $125,000 for the renovation of the school's weight room.
The new athletic facilities hosted 19 events in their first year that were previously held elsewhere, including basketball games, wrestling tournaments, and state gymnastics championships. The MHS Cheer and Dance Invitational alone ranked as the second-highest concession sales event. A primary challenge for the MABC was coordinating volunteers for this expanded schedule, leading to the implementation of incentives for sports programs participating in larger events.
Looking ahead, the MABC anticipates continued growth in annual income, allowing for further support of athletic programs and an expansion of its scholarship offerings. The club aims to provide student-athletes with resources beyond what school funds can cover, ensuring they have access to top-tier equipment and opportunities.
