Mets Keep Luis Robert Jr., Move Six Players

As the Major League Baseball trade deadline passed, the New York Mets successfully moved six players from their roster. While parting with several assets, including those on expiring contracts and some with future control, the team ultimately decided to retain outfielder Luis Robert Jr. General manager David Stearns indicated that Robert Jr.'s potential contribution to the second half of the season and a club option for the following year were key factors in this decision. Despite being in a 'sell mode,' the Mets also explored opportunities to acquire controllable starting pitching. Stearns confirmed discussions with multiple clubs regarding available arms. However, the team was unable to reach an agreement on the asking prices for these potential targets. Notable controllable arms traded by other teams, which the Mets might have been monitoring, include Jose Soriano, Braxton Garrett, and Luis Castillo.
