Mets' Prospect Pipeline Offers Center Field Solutions by 2027

As of November 13, 2025, the Mets are poised to solve their long-term center field dilemma through their prospect pipeline. With players like Carson Benge, Jett Williams, A.J. Ewing, and Nick Morabito in the upper levels of the minor leagues, the team is expected to have in-house options at the position no later than the 2027 season.

Benge, in particular, could be in play for the Mets' center field job as soon as Opening Day 2026, according to team president of baseball operations David Stearns. Filling the center field position from within would be a significant development for the Mets, as it is one of the hardest positions to acquire through free agency. In the last five years, roughly 43 of the 50 best center field seasons have come from players either developed entirely in-house or acquired as minor leaguers.

The Mets have taken a more cautious approach in recent offseasons, opting for less heralded and shorter-term solutions at the position, such as trades for Tyrone Taylor and Jose Siri, and a one-year contract with Harrison Bader. However, the proximity of Benge and the other prospects in the system suggests the team may not need to use significant assets to address center field this offseason.
