Mets Recall Morel: A New Infielder Arrives

Infielder Christopher Morel was called up to the New York Mets from their Triple-A affiliate, Syracuse, on Monday. Morel, who has a history of hitting 20 home runs in previous seasons, was added to the major league roster ahead of a series against the San Diego Padres.

Interim manager Andy Green announced that the 27-year-old Morel, a right-handed hitter, is slated to start at first base for Tuesday night's game. To make room on the roster, infielder Gabriel Arias was designated for assignment. Morel's major league career includes playing for the Cubs, Rays, and Marlins, accumulating 74 home runs and 211 RBIs over 499 games.

Morel had a brief stint with the Marlins this season before signing a minor league contract with the Mets on July 1. In 35 games with Syracuse, he demonstrated strong performance, hitting .309 with 12 home runs and an OPS of 1.033. Green expressed enthusiasm about Morel's addition, highlighting his infectious personality and competitive spirit.

The Mets organization also expects slugging outfielder Juan Soto and reliever Devin Williams to return to play before the end of the season, despite recent trades. President of Baseball Operations David Stearns confirmed these expectations. The team, currently in last place, has shown improvement, posting a 22-22 record since Green took over as interim manager on June 26.
