Lionel Messi delivered a decisive blow seven minutes from full-time, completing a second-half comeback for Inter Miami as they defeated the New England Revolution 2-1 on Sunday night. This crucial victory significantly tightens the race for top seeding in the Eastern Conference.
The New England Revolution had controlled much of the first half, leading in shots and dangerous attacks but failing to convert. Their persistence paid off in the 53rd minute when Dániel Gazdag opened the scoring.
Inter Miami responded after making substitutions in the 63rd and 64th minutes. German Berterame headed home an equalizer in the 69th minute following a scramble involving Messi and Telasco Segovia. Messi then secured the win in the 83rd minute, dribbling past a defender and finishing with a left-footed shot.
The result places Inter Miami one point ahead of New England Revolution in the standings with only one round left, ending the Revolution's four-game winning streak and giving Miami valuable momentum heading into the playoffs.
