Inter Miami captain Lionel Messi has revealed his post-playing career aspirations, indicating a preference for club ownership over coaching. This vision emerges as he continues his playing career, having recently signed a contract extension with Inter Miami through the 2028 MLS season.
Messi has already taken steps toward his ownership goals. He has partnered with long-time teammate Luis Suárez to establish Deportivo LSM, a club in the Uruguayan fourth division. This initiative, initials representing Luis Suárez and Messi, already boasts 80 professionals and 3,000 members, aiming to provide tools for youth development in Uruguayan soccer.
In addition to Deportivo LSM, Messi launched the Messi Cup, an under-16 youth tournament. River Plate won the inaugural edition in December. As of January 7, 2026, Messi remains focused on his playing duties with Inter Miami, who are set to begin their 2026 MLS campaign on February 21.
