Memphis head coach Charles Huff is already a prominent name in college football coaching speculation, less than a week into his first season with the team. Following Memphis's Week 0 road victory against UNLV, analysts are discussing Huff's potential to move to another major program.
Huff has a notable coaching trajectory, having previously guided Marshall to a Sun Belt Championship and then taking over Southern Miss. At Southern Miss, he orchestrated a turnaround, improving the team to a 7-5 record in his single season there.
His coaching background includes stints in the SEC and Big Ten, as well as time in the NFL. This extensive experience makes him a candidate for potential vacancies, particularly in programs like Maryland, which has experienced recent struggles under its current coach.
Memphis has a history of its coaches moving to higher-profile positions, with previous head coaches transitioning to jobs in Power 4 conferences. Huff's early success at Memphis, mirroring his past achievements, suggests he could be the next to make such a move.
