Northern Ireland winger Conor McMenamin has completed a shock transfer, returning to Glentoran just two months after signing with Coleraine. The deal includes Joe Thomson moving to Coleraine's Showgrounds. McMenamin, 31, initially joined Coleraine on June 23, returning to the Irish Premiership after three years with St Mirren in Scotland.
He had faced injury challenges in recent seasons and did not start a game for Coleraine. This move to Glentoran is unexpected, as McMenamin was seen as a key attacking player for Coleraine. He expressed delight at the opportunity to return to Glentoran, stating everything happened quickly. This is his third stint at The Oval, having previously played there in the 2015-16 season and from 2021 to 2023.
It was during his most recent spell at Glentoran that McMenamin won his first of 14 Northern Ireland caps in 2022 and scored against San Marino the following year. He acknowledged his time at St Mirren was important for his development, leading to his move to Scotland and returning as a more experienced player. Coleraine currently leads the Irish Premiership, while Glentoran is sixth in the table.
