Marquette Star Jones Faces Lengthy Layoff

Junior guard Sean Jones is expected to miss additional games for the Marquette men's basketball team as he continues to recover from a left foot injury. Coach Shaka Smart confirmed that Jones is dealing with turf toe and remains a considerable distance from returning to full practice or play.

Jones has experienced a recurring pattern of injuries since his freshman year in the 2022-23 season. His medical history includes a wrist injury, offseason surgery, a severe knee injury in January 2024 requiring a redshirt season, and shoulder issues earlier this season. Smart expressed empathy for Jones's difficult journey, focusing on his mental and physical healing.

Coach Smart highlighted the importance of Jones accepting his current situation and focusing on rehabilitation to return to the court. The team's last regular-season game is approximately four weeks away, leaving uncertainty about whether Jones will be able to play again this season. He is currently limited to stationary drills and shooting, with no movement-based activities yet.
