Summary
- Former Wimbledon champion Markéta Vondroušová received a four-year ban.
- The suspension stems from refusing a doping test in December 2025.
- Vondroušová cited fear and stress due to a late-night, unannounced test.

Former Wimbledon champion Markéta Vondroušová has been suspended for four years by an independent tribunal for refusing a doping test. The incident occurred on December 3, 2025, when she declined to provide a sample during an out-of-competition test at her home.
The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) charged Vondroušová, and the tribunal ultimately determined there was no sufficient justification for her refusal. The maximum penalty was applied, meaning her suspension will conclude on June 21, 2030.
Vondroušová had previously explained her actions, stating she experienced an Acute Stress Reaction and Generalized Anxiety Disorder, leading her to feel scared when the tester arrived late at night without proper identification. She drew parallels to a past incident involving fellow Czech player Petra Kvitová.
Under tennis' whereabouts rules, players must provide daily locations for testing. Refusal or multiple missed tests can result in sanctions. While Vondroušová indicated the tester arrived outside her designated window and failed to identify themselves, the ITIA and World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Code allow for surprise tests outside specified hours, respecting privacy.
During her suspension, Vondroušová is prohibited from participating in, coaching at, or attending any sanctioned events. She, the ITIA, and her national anti-doping organization have the right to appeal the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
