Marisha Thompson, a standout athlete from the University of Victoria Vikes, has been honored as the Canada West Women's Track Athlete of the Year. This prestigious recognition follows her exceptional performance at the conference championship held from February 20-21 at the University of Saskatchewan. Thompson captivated the event by clinching four medals, including two gold, one silver, and one bronze.
Her remarkable versatility was on full display as she competed across multiple events, from the 600 meters to the 3000 meters, achieving rankings in each. Her medal haul included gold in the 600 meters with a time of 1:33.56, silver in the 1000 meters at 2:50.79, and bronze in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:28.22. She also contributed to a gold medal in the 4x800m relay with her teammates.
Thompson's achievements extend beyond this championship, having previously broken her own record in the mile run with a time of 4:36.30. She is now set to compete at the U SPORTS Track and Field National Championships from March 5 to 7.
