Mario Ferraro, a prominent defenseman for the San Jose Sharks for seven seasons, has signed with the Winnipeg Jets. This move marks his return to Canada for the first time in his professional career. Ferraro, despite his youth at 27, was a significant leader for the Sharks during their rebuilding phase, holding an alternate captaincy for four seasons.
His tenure with San Jose saw him appear in 490 games, contributing 114 points with 24 goals and 90 assists. Known for his candor with the media, Ferraro often addressed the team's struggles honestly. While his name frequently surfaced in trade rumors, the Sharks opted to keep him until his contract expired this past summer.
Ferraro will now have an opportunity with the Jets to potentially reset his career in a more defined role, having been increasingly relied upon as a top defenseman for San Jose in recent seasons.
