The Toronto Maple Leafs have finalized a substantial six-player trade, acquiring forward Kirill Marchenko from the Columbus Blue Jackets. This significant deal, completed just one day before the NHL regular season commences, brings Marchenko to Toronto, while Matthew Knies is headed to Columbus.
Marchenko, who led the Blue Jackets in goals and scoring last season with 67 points, has agreed to a new six-year contract with the Maple Leafs, worth $75 million and an average of $12.5 million per year, effective from next season. This deal replaces his existing contract, which had one year remaining.
The trade also involved other player movements. The Maple Leafs will also receive forward Miles Wood and goaltender Elvis Merzlikins. In return, the Columbus Blue Jackets acquired Knies, along with Steven Lorentz, defenseman Emil Andrae, and a 2027 second-round draft pick.
